Living Without Food

I have dealt with oral cancer since 1996. Oral Cancer is generally a disease of older men who smoke or chewed tobacco and rank heavily. There was no obvious cause of my diagnosis as I never used tobacco and was on a good day a two-beer drunk.

My original treatment with intra-arterial chemotherapy followed by twice daily radiation appeared to remove the tumor from my tongue. Unfortunately, the tumor returned in 2000 and half of my tongue was removed in a semi-glossectomy

My last surgery in 2007 was completed after conflicting biopsy conclusions on a suspicious area between my upper and lwer wisdom teeth. It left me without the ability to swallow which gives life to the name of this blog.

In this blog I hope to do two things. First I will talk about the challenges of dealing with living without the ability to swalow and with reduced ability to speak. Second, I will recount stories of my treatment from the beginning.
